The origin of the settlement in the south of county Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, on the right bank of the river Tisza (Google Maps) dates back to ancient times shown by the tombs from the Sarmatian, Avar age that were found here. It has around 1000 inhabitants. It has beautiful natural values and a wonderful historical past. The house of regional traditions run by the Bükk National Park was opened in 1994. The exhibition presents the wildlife and traditional folk culture of the Mezőség region in South-Borsod. The monument late baroque Roman Catholic church was built between 1797 and 1800. Its remarkable architectural feature is the cope. The beautiful environment on the bank of the Tisza offers innumerable recreation opportunities. It is a favourite destination for families who love water and fishing. Also it's a great place to walk/hike and to bicycle in nature. On the opposite site on the river (few minutes by ferry to Tiszacsege) there is a thermal bath (indoor and outdoor) with swimming pool which is opened in summer, Mezőcsát thermal bath and swimming pool is 10 km away. Fishing opportunities are provided locally by a very nicely designed fishing lake and on the Tisza River.
A small medical center, shops for daily needs, postoffice, base school and kindergarten are located in the village.

A small town of 5,400 inhabitants, along the river Tisza. The settlement dates back to the age of Arpads and belongs to the Tisza mente Kistérség ('small region along the river Tisza') geographically but as a resort it is part of Lake Tisza. The bondsmen's house, which is now a museum, was built in 1833. The region with its rich flora and fauna is ideal for hiking and bicycle tours. The Kácsa-island, the Kiskácsa forest and the Willow and Hardwood grove are a nature reserve. From spring to autumn pleasure boats and excursion boats run between Kisköre and Tokaj. The medicinal water of the thermal bath, which comes from 1150 m deep, is good for curing rheumatism, muscle pains and herpetic diseases.
